MODERN HISTORY: INDIAN MODERNISM MEETS NEW ORLEANS GRAND DAME

Nomita's personal residence is a tribute to her style. Reflected by architectural, sculptural shapes and layered with bursts of color and cultural references to her upbringing and travels, she brings an air of modernism to her classic New Orleans home. This home went through extensive renovation to the home's infrastructure. Originally a multifamily residence, in the craftsman revival four square style, was converted to a single family residence. The several kitchens, baths, bedrooms and living rooms were re programmed and space planned to create a floor plan that speaks to a modern lifestyle.  A bedroom was sacrificed in the lower level to create a family room and another bedroom used upstairs for the primary bath and closet. The interior design of the home reflects the designer's personal style that blend's French colonial and Indian modernist elements.  This home was featured in Preservation Resource Center's Holiday home tour, in the Times Picayune's Inside Out magazine as well as a cover feature and  story in Vie Magazine. Nomita's studio is housed in a renovated 1850's building on Magazine Street next to her eponymous wallpaper and fabric showroom Spruce.
